Lullaby by Celia Thaxter Goodnight poem

Sleep, my darling, sleep!
Thunders the pitiless storm;
Fiercely at the window and door
Wrestle the winds and roar:
Thy slumber is deep and warm.
Sleep, my darling, sleep!

Sleep, my baby, sleep!
Over thy beautiful head,
Lightly, softly, and close,
Sweeter than lily or rose,
Thy mother's kisses are shed.
Sleep, my baby, sleep!

Sleep, my darling, sleep!
Safe in these arms, my own,
Summer shall wrap thee round;
Never harsh touch or sound
Break through that charmed zone.
Sleep, then, darling sleep!
