Mother's Sweet Kiss by Sarah Josepha Hale Mother's Day poem

I have learned my lesson,

And mother said
She would give me a kiss

When I went to bed
I do not want sugar-plums,

Candy and cake,
They make my mind dull,

And my head to ache.

My mother's sweet kiss
Is my best reward
To gain her smile

I will study hard
And when I am good,

She has always said
She would give me a kiss
When I went to bed.
